Wilderness Survival October 2012

The October outing on the Stubblefield farm was windy and buggy, and really fun.  The boys essentially finished the merit badges, and those that had the badge were lost in the back 40 acres for a day, much to the dismay of Timmy the snake.  Thanks to ASM Paul for putting this great trip together.
The boys ford the Stubblefield creek to the backcountry.

The new Troop 8 "small" trailer and the early scouts get lunch

Building Camp Bamboo

Just across the creek a bamboo hut takes shape

Building, and everything else, stops once there's a fire.

After surviving the night, one scout builds a wrap made entirely of pepperoni, chips and oreos.

Celebrating a birthday with this group means you get carried around in odd ways.

Raccoon Mountain Caving

What do you get when you mix two man crosscut saws, battle axes, go-carts, and oh by the way a challenging overnight BACKPACKING trek through the number one cave in the southeast? Really muddy scouts and really tired adult leaders. During the weekend, we were joined by local Webelos from Pack 419 and Pack 297 who were super strong. Just for fun, the boys build the longest monkey bridge in Troop 8 history... not a bad way to practice working together.

Boxwell Summer Camp 2011

DJ led the troop to Craig Campsite 6 for another great summer camp. With a great mixture of new and experienced scouts (as well as a few seasoned adult leaders), a good time was had by all. Troop 8 won the Dodgeball championship as well as Staff Hunt... but a lot more was gained once again by the boys.
