Mt. Leconte/Sleeping with the Sharks

Troop 8 spent a beautiful autumn weekend in the Smoky Mountains.  The pictures don't do the changing leaves justice, but the views from Mt. Leconte up the Alum Cave trail were incredible.  After a bear demonstration by a park ranger, the perfect way to end the trip was to encounter our very own black bear.  What a trip!

Our Scouts spent a night under the shark tank at the Aquarium of the Smokies.  Shown, our youngest Scouts react to a Megalodon's jaws, while our older Scouts dissect a squid.  

Ocoee Trip 2008

Troop 8 Scouts celebrate another great rafting and kayaking trip with Mr. Lahti. In addition to running the Olympic upper and middle Ocoee, we kayaked the Hiwassee, rappelled the local bluffs, and hiked 10 miles along the John Muir trail.  No wonder this is an annual Troop 8 tradition!

Philmont 2008

Troop 8 Scouts went to Philmont with the MTC contingency this summer.  We climbed Mt. Phillips, participated in fly fishing, Apache sweat lodge ceremonies, tomahawk throwing, COPE course, and did 3D archer/black powder shooting.  And that was all before noon, then we fought mini-bears.

City Trip - Louisville

The Scouts enjoy Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom.  The monster coaster, Chang, was popular along with "Bad Girl" tattoos, games of skill, and funnel cakes.

Boxwell Summer Camp

Schooner Sailing High Adventure

The 2008 Troop 8 High Adventure trip aboard the Daniel Webster Clements wooden schooner took 16 experienced Scouts on an adventure of a lifetime.  Our landlocked crew eye-spliced lines, hoisted jibs, and navigated our way from Destin to Shell Island on one of the prettiest wooden ships in the gulf.
