Schooner Sailing High Adventure

The 2008 Troop 8 High Adventure trip aboard the Daniel Webster Clements wooden schooner took 16 experienced Scouts on an adventure of a lifetime.  Our landlocked crew eye-spliced lines, hoisted jibs, and navigated our way from Destin to Shell Island on one of the prettiest wooden ships in the gulf.

From morning light to sunset, life onboard a wooden schooner requires mastering teamwork skills.

Life aboard a Gulf Schooner is pretty sweet...we eat, race, sing, and sleep.

The crew of the ship (Captain Randall, Mates Ben and Scott, Galley chef Amy, and the unsinkable Bub) were incredible.  They taught us, fed us, and even climbed the ship's lines to take the most amazing picture from the top of the mast.

Each Scout had the opportunity to scuba Shell Island... including swimming with blue crab, sand dollars, and Nick even swam with sea horses!

All 16 Scouts learned how to sail, row, and navigate from the outstanding crew of the Daniel Webster Clements schooner.

Wilderness Survival 2008

Bamboo shelters, compass courses, and lightning storms...a Troop 8 survival tradition.

Thanks to the Stubblefields for hosting us at their farm.  We got most of the merit badge done, plus entertainment from a tractor pull and 'fireworks' at 3am.
